The original audio/video cables that come with the PlayStation 3 use a composite video connection. If you switch to a high-definition multimedia interface cable, the PS3 disables the composite A/V port. When you try to connect the PS3 using the original cables after using an HDMI cable, the PS3 does not transmit the signal. Depending on the TV, the screen may display an error message or just stay blank. You can switch the port back on by restoring the default video settings.

Turn off your PS3 console.

Turn on the console, but keep the "Power" button held down.

Release the "Power" button when the PS3 beeps twice. The process takes approximately six seconds.
