How to Boot a PS3 Into Service Mode With DROID

The Sony PlayStation 3 service mode gives PS3 owners the ability to install user-generated applications, games and services. Getting the PS3 into service mode requires a service jig. A service jig can be made by using many electronic devices. You can even make it out of a Motorola Droid.

  • PSGroove Motorola Droid file

Instructions

      Download PSGroove for the Motorola Droid from the developer's website. Connect the Droid to your computer with a micro USB cable.

      Right-click the "Droid-Freedom.zip" file that was downloaded and click "Copy." Right-click the "SDcard" icon on the computer's desktop and click "Paste" from the context menu that comes up.

      Disconnect the Droid from the computer, and turn the phone off. Hold down the "X" button on the Droid and hold the "Power" button. The Droid is in recovery mode.

      Select the "Backup and Restore" option on the Droid recovery menu. Select "Backup."

      Press the "Power" button to return to the main recovery menu. Select "Install Zip from SDcard" and select the "Droid-Freedom.zip" file.

      Select "Yes" and PSGroove is installed onto the Droid. Press the "Power" button and select "Reboot System Now."

      Turn off the Sony PS3 and connect the Droid to the PS3 with the micro USB cable. Press the "Power" button on the PS3 and immediately press "Eject" on the PS3 and the PS3 is in service mode.
