How to Get an Electric Drum Set to Plug Into a PS3

In June of 2010, Mad Catz announced the release of several peripheral accessories for ̶0;Rock Band 3,̶1; including a guitar controller that functions as a regular guitar. Another accessory targeted towards gamers with musical experience is the MIDI PRO-Adapter, which allows MIDI-capable electric drum sets to be plugged into a PlayStation 3 console and played with the game. The MIDI PRO-Adapter also functions as a controller, allowing the user to navigate game menus using the buttons located on the unit.

Things You'll Need

  • Electric drum set with MIDI output
  • Mad Catz MIDI PRO-Adapter
  • MIDI cable

Instructions

    • 1

      Connect the MIDI PRO-Adapter̵7;s USB plug into one of the PS3̵7;s front console ports.

      Connect one end of the MIDI cable plug into the MIDI PRO-Adapter. Connect the other end into the electric drum kit.

      Flip the instrument select switch to ̶0;D.̶1;

      Set the MIDI PRO-Adapter on a stable surface, away from any foot pedals. You can also use the harness clip to attach the unit to the drum set or to your clothing.

      Turn on the drum kit. The MIDI input indicator will light up.

      Press the ̶0;PS̶1; button on the MIDI PRO-Adapter to turn the PS3 on.

      Log in to your user account and launch ̶0;Rock Band 3̶1; from the XrossMediaBar.
