How to Hook Up Your PS3 Controller to Your Computer's Windows 7

The Sixaxis and the DualShock 3 are the two official controllers for the PlayStation 3. Although both controllers are USB devices, they will not work on your Windows 7 computer and there are no official drivers for them. Using harmless, unofficial drivers, will make it so either PS3 controller can be hooked up to your computer, allowing you to use them in any game or application that supports USB controllers.

Instructions

    • 1

Download the Windows 7 driver from the website listed in the Resources section. Save the ZIP file to the desktop. Right-click the ZIP file and click "Extract to Here" or "Extract All."

    • 2

Connect the PS3 to a USB port on the computer. Double-click the .exe file extracted from the ZIP folder. Click the "Install" button. The Motionin Joy Gamepad Tool will open.

    • 3

Click the "Load" button to install the driver. Click "Close" when the box reads "Your Device is Read to Use." Click the "OK" button to exit. Exit the Motionin Joy Gamepad and open it again.

    • 4

Click "Analog Gamepad 2" and click "Enable." This will enable both analog sticks and the vibration feature. Click "Apply" and select "OK" to exit.
