How to Get a PS3 Image on a Laptop

To capture screenshots or view video from your PlayStation 3 on your laptop, you need a USB capture device. Some laptops have HDMI or s-video ports, but they are designed to transmit signals and are not capable of receiving input. USB capture devices are sold by many manufacturers. All capture devices support the PS3's default composite cables, but the optional component cables give better video quality.

  Purchase a USB video capture device. You can buy them online, or at local retailers that sell computer equipment.

  Install the drivers and software that came with your USB capture device. Follow the manufacturer's installation instructions.

  Plug the video connections into the USB capture device. The jacks are color-coded. The composite video connection is yellow. Component connections are red, green and blue. Match the color on the plug to to the jack.

  Plug the audio cables leading from the PS3 into the matching red and white audio ports on the USB capture device.

  Plug the USB connector into an open USB port on your laptop.
