How to Get a PS3 Controller to Work Without a Wire

The PlayStation 3 (PS3) video game console has wired controllers by default but also supports wireless controller connections using the console's Bluetooth feature. The console's wireless controller must be within 100 feet of the console in order to maintain a strong connection. It runs on batteries to power the wireless device. The controller must be previously paired with the PS3 via USB cable. Once paired, the controller can be used wirelessly, and up to seven wireless controllers can be connected simultaneously for multi-player gaming.

Instructions

    • 1

Press "Power" on the front of the PS3. Power on your TV and turn the channel to the Audio/Video channel to view the PS3 home menu.

    • 2

Press "Ps" on the PS3 controller to turn on the console's controller, which sends a signal to the console to communicate and establish a connection.

    • 3

Hold down "Ps" on the controller to check the controller's battery life. The battery percentage appears on your TV screen.

    • 4

Press "Power" on the console or "Ps" on the controller to turn off either device and remove the controller's assigned port number.
