Error
If you insert a VCD into your PS3, the device attempts to read the disc and then presents an ̶0;unsupported video format̶1; error. VCD conversion programs are available from software download websites, including CNET, Tucows and FileHippo. The programs convert the video on the VCD into another format, such as MP4, MPEG-4 or MPEG-2, but you still may not be able to play the video on your PS3 even if you transfer the converted file to a memory stick. Conversion success and compatibility with your PS3 depends on how the VCD video file was originally created and the file's original video format.
Acceptable Video Formats
Your PS3 is capable of playing the following video formats from a memory stick or CD/DVD: AVCHD, MP4, MPEG-4 SP, H.264/MPEG-4 AVC High Profile, MPEG-2 TS, MPEG-1, MPEG-2 PS, AVI, DivX, WMV, VC-2 and Motion JPEG files. Convert the VCD to one of these formats to play the video on your PS3.
Conversion Format
Select the MP4 or AVCHD file format as the output file format if you are converting the video on a VCD to another format. MP4 and AVCHD are high-quality file formats your PS3 can open and display from a CD-R or memory stick. Follow the program̵7;s on-screen prompts to complete the video conversion process after inserting the VCD into your computer̵7;s CD/DVD drive.
WMV Files
Navigate to ̶0;Settings,̶1; ̶0;System Settings̶1; and ̶0;Enable WMA Playback̶1; to play Windows Media Video files if you are unable to play VCD video files you have converted to WMV files directly from a memory stick. Your PS3 recognizes the WMV format and begins playing it.
