How to Hook Up a PS3 to a Computer to Share Files

If you have videos and music stored on your computer, but you want to view and listen to the content in another room, connect the computer to your PS3 console. When you make this connection, a computer running Windows Media Player 11 or higher functions as a Digital Living Network Alliance, or DLNA, server. You can use a wired or wireless connection to transfer content from your computer to the PS3.

Connect the PS3 to a wired or wireless router. Use the router that your computer connects to. If you have a wired router, connect the included Ethernet cable to the PS3, then connect the other end to the router. If your router is wireless, turn on the PS3 and select "Settings," "Network Settings" and "Network Connection." Choose "Enable," "Yes" and "Wireless."

Open Windows Media Player 11 on the computer. Click the "Library" menu and select "Media Sharing."
