How to Make PS3 in Surround Sound

The PlayStation 3 supports several output formats when connected to a surround sound system, using either HDMI or Optical audio connections.

      Connect the HDMI or Optical audio cable to the PS3 console̵7;s rear panel, if it isn̵7;t already connected.

      Press the ̶0;PS̶1; button on the PS3 controller to power on the console. Select your user account and press the ̶0;Cross̶1; button.

      Select the ̶0;Settings̶1; icon, select ̶0;Sound Settings̶1; from the menu and press the ̶0;Cross̶1; button.

      Select ̶0;Audio Output Settings̶1; and press ̶0;Right̶1; on the directional control pad.

      Select ̶0;HDMI̶1; if you are using an HDMI connection or select ̶0;Digital Out (Optical)̶1; if you are using an Optical audio cable. Press ̶0;Right̶1; on the directional control pad.

      Select ̶0;Dolby Digital 5.1 Ch.̶1; from the list of output formats. If the audio system supports DTS or uncompressed PCM audio input, select ̶0;DTS 5.1 Ch.̶1; or ̶0;Linear PCM 5.1 Ch. 44.1 kHz̶1; from the list. Press the ̶0;Cross̶1; button.

      Confirm your new audio settings and press the ̶0;Cross̶1; button to complete the settings change.
