How to Get the Best Connection Speeds for a PS3

The PlayStation 3 (PS3) supports two types of connections to get online: wired and wireless. Although wireless may be more convenient, a wireless connection is more prone to connection drops, latency and inconsistent performance, which slow downloads or impede your performance in online games. To get the best possible Internet connection for your PS3, use a wired connection and make sure there are no Internet-reliant programs running while using the PS3 online.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug the broadband modem and/or router from its AC outlet for two minutes. Reconnect the broadband modem and/or router and wait an additional 30 seconds for the Internet connection to refresh.

    • 2

Close any bandwidth consuming programs running on all computers connected to the Internet connection, such as anti-virus, download managers and multiplayer games.

    • 3

Connect the PS3 directly to your broadband modem or router using an Ethernet cable. Scroll to and choose the "Network" icon on the PS3 menu, and then select "Network Settings." Go down to "Internet Connection" and select "Enabled." Go down to "Internet Connection Settings" and press the "X" button. Select "Easy" and wait for the PS3 to configure the wired connection. Press the "X" button to save the settings and select "Test Connection" to complete the setup.
