Use an S-Video or component cable. While neither cable offers the same graphical advantage as an HDMI cable, both cables offer an improvement in graphics over the PlayStation 3's included composite cable.
Select "Display Settings" from the "Settings" menu on the PlayStation 3's main menu. Select Cross Color Reduction Filter and select "On." This reduces the color noise on systems not using HDMI, resulting in better colors and improved graphics.
Adjust your television's settings. Settings such as color, brightness and sharpness can be adjusted to make the PlayStation 3's graphics clearer or more vibrant.
Connect your PlayStation 3 to a high-definition television or monitor. Even without an HDMI cable, an HDTV or monitor offers graphical improvements over a standard-definition television.
Turn on the smoothing feature from the "Game Settings" menu on the PlayStation 3's main menu. Smoothing affects PlayStation 1 and 2 games by smoothing the jagged edges found on these older games. This setting is not dependent on your PlayStation 3's setup and can increase the graphics of these older games.
