How to Install a PS3 on a TV

Your PlayStation 3 video game system, also called PS3, connects to your television like any other video device, such as a DVD player. The console, however, comes with two video cables: HDMI or composite. If you own a standard set, you must use the three-pronged composite cable. HDTV owners, on the other hand, have the luxury of utilizing the HDMI cable, allowing you to play games and watch Blu-Ray videos up to 1080p resolution. Install your PS3 to your television using one of these video output cables.

Instructions

  1. HDMI

    • 1

Place your PS3 in a well-ventilated area, such in an airy spot in your television stand. Avoid closed off spaces or placing it on a carpet, which can soak up heat.

    • 2

Plug either side of your HDMI cable into an HDMI connector on your television. If you cannot locate the HDMI port, view your televisions' instruction manual. Most sets label the HDMI port accordingly.

    • 3

Insert the other end of the HDMI cord into your PS3's HDMI OUT connector on the console's back. This connection sends audio and video from the PS3 to your television.

    • 4

Connect the PS3's AC power cable into the console's AC IN port on the console's back.

    • 5

Flip the "MAIN POWER" switch off, located directly above the AC IN port.

    • 6

Plug the other end of the AC power cable into a nearby wall outlet or power strip.

    • 7

Flip the "MAIN POWER" switch on.

    • 8

Connect one end of your wireless controller's USB cable into a USB port on the front of the PS3 and connect the other end into your wireless controller's mini-USB plug-in.

    • 9

Press the front "Power" button on the PS3 to turn on the system. The controller automatically syncs to the system.

    • 10

Turn on the TV and change the input to HDMI. Your PS3's setup prompts appear on the screen. If you do not know how to cycle through your television's input signals, view the instruction manual.

    • 11

Follow the on-screen prompts to configure your system's basic settings, such as setting the date and time.
