How to Set Up the PlayStation 3 Slim for Bitstream

Audio output on the PS3 Slim comes in two different versions. Linear PCM is the uncompressed audio format that audio CDs use. It is what the receiver will use and convert into analog signals for your speakers. Bitstream is a compressed format used on DVD and BD movies. On high-end receiver equipment the bitstream will be translated to Linear PCM and then converted to analog to your speakers.

     Turn on the PS3 and log in to your account.

     Select "Settings," "BD/DVD Settings" and "BD/DVD Audio Output Format(HDMI)" from the menu options.

     Select the "Bitstream" option and save your settings.
