Turn on your PS3 and click "Settings," "System Update," and press "X." Highlight "Update via Internet" and press "X." Select "Yes" to start updating your firmware. Wait for the completion message.
Turn off your PS3 and plug an Ethernet cable in one of its Ethernet ports. Navigate to "Settings," "Network Settings" and press "X." Select "Internet Connection Settings" and press "X." Select "Wired Connection," "Easy" and press "X." This will enable a wired connection to make downloads faster. Press the "Circle" to exit to the main menu.
Delete old files by navigating to "Music," "Game" or "Video." Highlight a file you want to delete. Press the "Triangle," select "Delete" and press "X." Press "X" again to confirm. Repeat these steps to remove old files you no longer use and free more memory space on your PS3.
