Connect a Router to the Modem and Computer
Use a telephone cable to connect a nearby telephone wall jack to the "DSL" phone jack on the modem. Or, if you̵7;re using a cable modem, connect the other end of the coaxial cable attached to the cable wall outlet to the modem̵7;s ̶0;Cable In̶1; port. (If you already have your modem connected to your computer these connections should already be made.)
Connect the modem̵7;s power cable to the power jack located on the device̵7;s rear panel. Plug the power cable into an electrical outlet. Turn on the modem. (As in step 1, if you already have your modem connected to your computer this connection should already be made.)
Disconnect the Ethernet cable currently connecting the modem to your computer (if applicable).
Use an Ethernet cable to connect the modem̵7;s Ethernet port to the ̶0;Wan̶1; Ethernet port on the back of the router.
Insert one end of another Ethernet cable into one of the ̶0;Lan̶1; Ethernet ports on the back of the router. Insert the other end of this cable into your computer̵7;s Ethernet port.
Connect the router̵7;s power cable to the power jack located on the device̵7;s rear panel. Plug the power cable into an electrical outlet. Turn on the router.
Refer to the router̵7;s user guide for information on how to log in to the router and set up a network name (̶0;SSID̶1;) and security key.
Connect the PS3 to Your Network
Turn on the PS3 console and the TV it is connected to. Use the arrow keys on the PS3 controller to highlight ̶0;Internet Connection̶1; in the ̶0;Network Settings̶1; menu. Highlight ̶0;Enable,̶1; then press the ̶0;X̶1; button on the controller to select the highlighted item.
Highlight and select ̶0;Internet Connection Settings.̶1; Select ̶0;Yes̶1; when prompted to continue. Select ̶0;Easy̶1; when prompted to choose a ̶0;setting method.̶1; Select ̶0;Wireless̶1; when prompted to choose a ̶0;connection method.̶1; Select ̶0;Scan̶1; at the next prompt. The PS3 will begin scanning for Wi-Fi signals available in your area. Your router̵7;s wireless signal should be detected.
Highlight and select your router̵7;s network name (̶0;SSID̶1;) from the list of available networks. Press the right arrow key to continue. Select the type of security key your router uses (̶0;WEP̶1; or ̶0;WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK̶1;). An onscreen keyboard will appear. Enter your network security key. Press the ̶0;Start̶1; button on the controller to close the onscreen keyboard.
Press the ̶0;X̶1; button to save your wireless network settings.
Select ̶0;Test Connection̶1; to test the PS3̵7;s connection to the Internet.
