How to Hook Up a PS3 to a Sharp HD TV With Video Input

Because the PlayStation 3, or PS3, is primarily a high-definition device, hooking up the device to your Sharp HD TV using an HD connection such as HDMI produces the best results visually. All Sharp HD TVs include at least one HDMI connection, and also support a standard composite AV connection, which is also supported by the PS3. The PS3 includes a composite AV cable, or you can purchase any HDMI cable to make the connection.

Instructions

HDMI

  Insert the HDMI cable into the "HDMI Out" port on the back of the PS3, to the left of the Ethernet port. Insert the other side of the HDMI cable into the "HDMI" port on the Sharp HD TV.

  Change the Sharp HD TV to its "HDMI" display mode. Turn the PS3 on and wait for the logo to appear on the screen. The PS3 then prompts you to optimize the HDMI connection.

  Select "Yes" when asked to use the HDMI connection for audio and video. Select "Yes" when asked to use the most optimal settings for the Sharp HD TV. Select "Yes" when asked to accept the predetermined setting. Select "Yes" to save the settings.
Composite AV

  Insert the square side of the composite AV cable into the "AV Multi Out" port on the back of the PS3.

  Insert the yellow, white and red connectors on the other side of the composite AV cable into the corresponding yellow, white and red AV ports on the Sharp HD TV.

  Change the Sharp HD TV to its "Composite AV" display mode. Depending on the model, it may be referred to as "Video" or "Input." Turn the PS3 on and wait for the logo to appear on the screen.
