How to Connect a PS3 MIDI to a PC

The ̶0;Rock Band̶1; music game series features several instruments on which players rack up high scores in tune to music, following a set of on-screen prompts. ̶0;Rock Band 3̶1; introduced a new instrument to the series: the keyboard, which also functions as a full-featured MIDI keyboard when connected to a MIDI controller or used with a USB converter.

Things You'll Need

  • 5-Pin MIDI cable
  • MIDI to USB converter (if no MIDI controller on the PC)
  • MIDI sequencer program

Instructions

  1. Connecting to a MIDI Port

    • 1

      Connect the 5-Pin MIDI cable to the DIN port located on the right side of the keyboard.

    • 2

      Connect the other end of the cable to the MIDI port on the computer̵7;s sound card or MIDI input card. If you are using a sound module, connect the cable to the sound module̵7;s input port.

      Flip the keyboard̵7;s power switch to the ON position and load the MIDI sequencer program.

    Connecting to a USB Port

    • 4

      Connect the MIDI to USB converter to the computer̵7;s USB port.

      Connect the MIDI to USB converter̵7;s power cable to an electrical outlet. If the converter is bus-powered and has no external power source, skip this step.

    • 6

      Connect the 5-Pin MIDI cable to the DIN port on the right side of the keyboard.

    • 7

      Connect the other end of the MIDI cable to the converter.

    • 8

      Turn the keyboard on and load the MIDI sequencer program.
