How to Hook Up 1 TB to a PS3

Sony's PlayStation 3 game console comes with a built-in hard drive that is used to store movies, music, pictures and games that can be accessed through the system's XrossMediaBar. If you run out of space on the stock hard drive that came with your system, or if you simply want to add more storage space to your PS3, you can do so through the addition of an external hard drive. Since there is no limit regarding the size of the hard drives that can be used, you can even add a terabyte hard drive to your PS3 system.

Instructions

    • 1

Connect the external hard drive to your computer via the USB connection cable that came with the device.

    • 2

Click the "Start" button in the computer's task bar and select the "Computer" option. Double-click on the external hard drive's removable storage device icon to view the hard drive's root folder.

    • 3

Right click and select the "New Folder" option. Name the new folder "PICTURE."

    • 4

Repeat Step 3, to create three additional folders named "VIDEO," "MUSIC" and "GAME."

    • 5

Place any photos, videos, songs or game saves that you want to view on the PS3 system into their respective folders.

    • 6

Right-click on the external hard drive's removable storage icon and select the "Eject" option. Disconnect the external hard drive from the computer.

    • 7

Connect the external hard drive to the PS3 system via the USB connection cable. Now, the contents of the "PICTURE," "VIDEO," "MUSIC" and "GAME" folders can be viewed in the "Photo," Video," "Music" and "Game" section of the XrossMediaBar, respectively.
