How to Hook Up Fiber Optics to a PS3

The PlayStation 3 (PS3) is a home media and gaming console designed and released by Sony in late 2006. To maximize your gaming experience, you can hook up your PlayStation 3 to a surround-sound system using a fiber optic audio cable. The surround sound, as the name suggests, lets you hear sounds from all around you, as if you were really part of the action. Connecting the two devices takes only a few minutes.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert one end of the fiber optic cable into your surround system. Consult your device's documentation for the exact port you must use as each device will differ. Most will have a port labeled "Digital In" that you must use, but yours may be called something different.

    • 2

Insert the other end of the fiber optic cable into your PlayStation 3. This must go in the "Digital Output" port on its backside.

    • 3

Turn on your PlayStation 3 and surround-sound system. The surround-sound system must be set to the right channel, and it is usually called the "Digital In" channel.
