How to Connect a PS3 to a Home Network Wirelessly

The Playstation 3 (PS3) can connect to your router with an Ethernet cable or via Wi-Fi. You can use the wireless connection to play games versus other PS3 owners, download updates and games to your PS3, browse the Internet and perform other online functions. Using a wireless connection gives you the freedom to set up your PS3 anywhere in your house instead of needing to set it up in the same room as your router. You need a wireless router in order to connect your PS3 wirelessly.

Instructions

    • 1

Start the PS3 and press the left or right arrow buttons on the PS3 controller to highlight the "Settings" icon on the XMB menu bar.

    • 2

Press the down arrow button to highlight "Network Settings" and press the "X" button on the controller.

    • 3

Select "Internet Connection Settings" from the menu. The "Internet Connection Settings" screen appears.

    • 4

Highlight "Easy" and press the "X" button, select "Wireless" and then "Scan." A list of available wireless connections appears on the screen.

    • 5

Select the name of your wireless connection and then press "X" a second time to confirm the selection. The "WLAN Security Setting" screen appears, if you have a secure network.

    • 6

Press the down arrow button on your controller to select the type of security key you use for your wireless network and press "X." Select "None" if you do not have a secure network.

    • 7

Push the "X" button to open the onscreen keyboard and enter your wireless network password.

    • 8

Highlight "Enter" on the onscreen keyboard and press "X." The PS3 connects to the wireless network and displays a list of your wireless settings.

    • 9

Press "X" to confirm the connection and then "X" a second time to test the connection. You need to repeat the process of connecting the PS3 to your wireless network if "Obtain IP Address," "Internet Connection" or "Playstation Network" show "Failed" instead of "Succeeded."
