How to Hook Up a PlayStation 3 Controller to Another PlayStation 3

The PlayStation 3 lets you pair up to seven wireless controllers using the console's Bluetooth capabilities, eliminating the mess of cords commonly found with older gaming systems. After a controller is paired with a PS3, the controller only recognizes that system. This can cause headaches if you want to take your controller to a friend's house and use it. If you find yourself in this scenario, restart the syncing process using the controller's USB cable to pair the device with a different PS3.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn on the PS3 you want to connect the PS3 controller to.

    • 2

Plug the mini-USB end of your controller's USB cable into the controller's USB port above "Sony."

    • 3

Connect the other larger end of the cable into one of the USB ports on the front of the PS3. The four lights on top of the controller flash for a few seconds. After the lights stabilize, the controller has successfully been paired with the PS3.

    • 4

Disconnect the USB cable from the PS3 and controller to begin using the controller wirelessly. Alternatively, leave the cable connected to use the controller while it is also charging.
