How to Convert .Psu to .Psv

Having a PlayStation 3 doesn't mean that you have to give up on that epic Final Fantasy XII adventure, or any of your other favorite PlayStation 2 games. All you need to do is to convert your .PSU (PlayStation 2 saved data) to .PSV (PlayStation 3 saved data) format. The easiest way to change the format of these files is to transfer the data from a PS2 memory card onto the PS3 hard drive. While this is a little difficult due to changes in hardware and the availability of older models, it is certainly not impossible.

Things You'll Need

  • PlayStation 2 memory card with game data
  • PlayStation 2 game disc
  • PlayStation 2 memory card adapter
  • PlayStation 3 (first or second generation model, beginning with CECHAxx, CECHBxx, CECHCxx or CECHExx)

Instructions

    • 1

Obtain a PlayStation 3 Memory Card Adapter. These are available from many retailers, including Amazon, Buy.com and Toys 'R Us. Plug the adapter into your PlayStation 3 via the USB port. Make certain you have the cord connecting the adapter to the PS3 for this.

    • 2

Start your PS3 by pressing the power button. Once the main menu has booted up, select "Game" from the XMB (Xross Media Bar, at the top of the screen). Press down until you reach "Memory Card Utility." Then select it by pressing the X button on your controller.

    • 3

"Memory Card (PS2)" should now be visible. Press the triangle button on your controller and select "Copy" to begin transferring the data from the PlayStation 2 memory card to the PlayStation 3. A new, virtual "Internal Memory Card" will be created on the hard drive of your PlayStation 3. These function just like physical PS2 memory cards.

    • 4

Insert your PlayStation 2 game disc and begin playing. You should now be able to access the Internal Memory Card just as you would a real one during gameplay.
