How to Hook Up a PS3 HDMI on 1080i

The Sony PlayStation 3 supports both standard and high-definition video output. Standard definition supports both 4:3 and 16:9 aspect ratio, while high definition displays in 16:9. To use high-definition video you must connect the PS3 to the television using the HDMI cable, as opposed to component cables or an S-Video cable. Once you connect the device to your television, you can adjust the graphics settings from the PS3 menu options.

Instructions

    • 1

Connect one end of the HDMI cable to an open port on your television and the other end into the back of the PS3.

    • 2

Turn on the PS3, then click "Settings" and scroll down to "Display Settings."

    • 3

Select "Video Output Settings," then choose "HDMI."

    • 4

Check all resolutions your television supports when the resolution screen appears. Since you want to hook the PS3 up using 1080i, select only the check box next to 1080i.

    • 5

Select your aspect ratio from the next screen. Choose 16:9 for high-definition viewing, then click "Save Settings" to apply your changes.
