Power Cable and USB Cord.
The PlayStation 3 has an internal power supply unit and only requires an AC cord to power on. The PS3 can be powered on by touching the power-on logo on the front of the system or by turning the main power switch on. The main power switch is located on the rear panel of the console. The PS3 controller has wireless capabilities and uses an internal, rechargeable battery. The battery is charged by plugging the controller into the system with the supplied USB cord.
Audio and Video Cables
The PlayStation 3 comes with four options for audio and video output. An audio and video cable using RCA output plugs comes standard with the PS3. These are the typical red, white and yellow cables used by many televisions and are capable of standard, 576i definition. Another option for audio and video output is the use of a component cable. These cables have additional RCA-type plugs and provide up to 1080p-definition. S-Video cables can also be used when necessary, with standard-definition. The PS3 is also capable of HDMI output. Many LCD monitors have HDMI input and HDMI can produce 1080p-definition. Audio can be transmitted through either of these cables or digitally through the PS3's optical-audio connection.
Internet Requirements
A local broadband Internet connection is required for all online gaming and downloads through the PS3. You can hook up the PlayStation using a wired Internet connection or through its integrated wireless card. Both connection types should be routed through a network router. Nearby wireless routers provide the PS3 with a broadcast ID, which you can log into from the Settings menu. Ethernet network cabling can be used to connect the PS3 directly to a router.
Controller and Accessory Options
Typical retail packages include only one controller, which serves as a wireless controller when charged. Additional controllers can be used in multiplayer games and up to seven controllers can be connected to a PS3 at once. In 2010 Sony released the PS3 Move, a device that enablers players to navigate games with body motions. Other accessories available to set your PS3 up for various games include keyboards, pointing devices and alternative audio systems. Each PS3 game lists its recommended and compatible controllers.
