How to Make Your PS3 Brighter

The PS3 is a versatile media center with entertainment options including streaming Netflix, DVD and Blu-ray playback, online movie rentals, and of course, video games. Enjoying your PS3 requires that the visuals work well, providing a quality resolution and a well-lit image. If the picture on your PS3 is too dark, you have a few options. Nearly all video games have brightness settings, so you can easily configure those to your liking. Unfortunately, the PS3 is unable to make general brightness adjustments to movies or its own interface, so you'll have to tweak those settings on your TV.

Instructions

  1. Game Settings

    • 1

Pause your game or access the game's main menu. Usually, display settings are available in both places, but if you can't find the settings at the in-game pause screen, try exiting to the main menu.

    • 2

Select the option that allows you to adjust the display configuration. This is usually found under the Settings or Display section. If you can't find it, you may need to refer to the game's manual.

    • 3

Increase the brightness of the game until it looks right to you. This may require some experimenting. Games often show the brightness changes for the on-screen menu only, so you can't actually see the effects on the game's appearance until you resume playing.

    TV Settings

    • 4

Turn on the TV and access its menu. Usually, you access the menu by pressing the "Menu" button on the remote control.

    • 5

Select the option for adjusting the display settings. This is typically labeled "Display," "Image" or "Picture." Consult the documentation for your TV if you are unable to locate this option.

    • 6

Locate the "Brightness" and "Contrast" settings.

    • 7

Increase the brightness setting, the contrast setting or both. You may have to try a few different settings to get the picture to look right. Often, a combination of adjustments to brightness and contrast will resolve the issue.
