How to Hook Up PlayStation 3 on TV Without Connectors

The Sony PlayStation 3 comes with a set of composite audio/video cables to connect to your TV. Modern televisions have many connection options for adding peripheral audio and video equipment, but if you have an older TV with no extra connections you can still play your video games. All televisions sold since the early 1980s have a coaxial port for hooking up an antenna or cable television. You can use this port for your PS3 using an RF modulator.

Instructions

    • 1

Plug the composite connections on the PS3 A/V cable into the input ports on the RF modulator. The jacks and connectors are color coded. Plug the cable into the matching colored jack.

    • 2

Disconnect the coaxial cable leading from the cable or antenna source from the back of your television and plug it into the coaxial input port on the RF modulator.

    • 3

Plug another coaxial cable into the output port on the RF modulator. Plug the other end of the cable into the antenna input on your TV.

    • 4

Plug the RF modulator power cord into a power outlet.

    • 5

Turn on the TV and the PS3. Change the TV to Channel 3 or 4. If you are using an antenna, change the channel to whichever channel is not being used for TV broadcasts in your area.

    • 6

Reset the PS3 video settings if the picture does not appear on the screen. Hold down the Power button until the PS3 beeps twice. This takes approximately six seconds.
