How to Hook a Controller Up to a Different PS3

The two official PlayStation 3 (PS3) controllers, the DualShock 3 and Sixaxis, are physically similar but include different features. A feature they both share is that they must be paired to a PS3 before they will work. The pairing process must be performed each time you hook up the controller to a different PS3. Once the controller is paired, it can be used wired or wirelessly.

      Connect the smaller, rectangular side of the USB cable that came with the controller into the mini-USB port on the top of the PS3 controller.

      Connect the opposite side of the USB cable into any USB port on the PS3.

      Press the "PS" button on the center of the controller. Wait for the lights on the shoulder of the controller to stop flashing, which indicates the controller has been paired. Disconnect the controller to use it wirelessly or leave it connected to the USB cable.
