The PlayStation 3 (PS3) allows you to manually change which video connection you want to use in the Settings menu. HDMI is an uncompressed high-definition format that is ideal for HDTVs. The normal cord that comes with the PS3, the AV cable, is a standard-definition cable that is intended for standard-definition TVs. The normal composite AV video connection will result in an image that is noticeably worse than the one resulting from an HDMI connection.
