Standard Audio/Video
The standard audio/video cable is the only cable that comes with the PlayStation 3. The cable is specific to the PlayStation 3 because one end of it connects to the multi-out port on the PlayStation 3, and the other end is the standard audio/video cables. The cables can be connected to any audio/video input on your TV.
S-Video
A PlayStation 3-compatible S-Video cable must be purchased separately because one end of it connects to the multi-out port on the PlayStation 3. The other end of the cable consists of an S-Video connector and standard audio cables. S-Video quality is slightly lower than standard video quality. If your TV has an S-Video input, connect the S-Video cable first, then connect the audio cables to the audio jacks that work in connection with the S-Video input. You may need to check your TV manual if it is unclear which audio jacks to use.
Component Video
A PlayStation 3-compatible component cable must be purchased separately because one end of it connects to the multi-out port on the PlayStation 3. Component cables carry high-definition video and standard audio. The component input on TVs often works in conjunction with the audio inputs found in one of the standard audio video inputs.
HDMI
Any HDMI cable will work with the PlayStation 3. HDMI cables carry high-definition audio and video, and only consists of one connector. The fewest connectors on any of the other cable options is three. Plug the other end of the HDMI cable connected to your PlayStation 3 into any of the available inputs on your TV.
