How to Hook Up a PlayStation 3 to an Older TV That Doesn't Have an HDMI Cable

High-definition television sets use High-Definition Multimedia Interface connections to hook up to video equipment and games consoles, such as the Sony PlayStation 3. Older TV sets don't come with HDMI sockets, but you can still connect your PlayStation 3 by using an alternative video connection. Check the rear panel on your TV set to find available video connectors and buy a compatible video cable. Most TV sets offer composite video, component video or AV Multi/SCART video connections and the PlayStation 3 can connect to all of these as an alternative to HDMI.

Instructions

Switch off the TV set and the Sony PlayStation 3 games console.

    • 2

Plug one end of the video connection cable into the correct socket on the back of the TV set and the other end of the cable into the correct socket on the PlayStation 3.

    • 3

Switch on the TV and the PlayStation 3. Press the "Ext" or "AV" button on the TV's remote control to find the correct channel for the PlayStation 3.
