How to Hook Up a PS3 to a TV With Composite RCA Cables

Today's gaming systems come ready to be used with high-definition television. But some gamers still have standard-definition televisions. To meet the needs of these customers, the PlayStation 3 is supplied with a composite cable that can be used to hook up the console to standard-definition television sets. This allows the PS3 to be virtually usable on any TV since radio frequency modulators can help bridge a connection between the RCA ends of composite cables and televisions with no composite inputs.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the PlayStation 3 and unplug it from the electrical socket. Power off the TV as well and unplug it.

    • 2

Connect the flat end of the supplied A/V composite cable to the back of the PlayStation 3. There should be a port on the back of console labeled "AV multi out."

    • 3

Connect the other end of the cable to the corresponding composite ports on the TV. These are also known as the RCA ports. Be sure the ports are labeled "input" since the PS3 signal will be going into the television. If there is no red port present, disregard it and hook up the yellow and white ports only.

    • 4

Plug the PS3 back into the wall. A red light should appear, indicating that the PS3 is receiving power. Push the "On/off" switch on the front of the console. The light should turn green, indicating that it is receiving power or blue if there is a disk inside.

    • 5

Plug the television back into the wall and turn it on. Switch the A/V input on the TV to "RCA/composite" where the PS3 is now plugged in. This button can usually be found on the front of the TV and on the remote. It is usually labeled "TV/video" or "Input."
