How to Downgrade PS3 With TI Calcutator

"Softmodding" your Sony PlayStation 3 gaming system, which is the process of modifying the basic operating system to allow it to work with unofficial applications and games, often requires a downgrade of your operating systems firmware. Due to frequency updates to the operating system firmware by Sony, many hacking-community "softmodding" applications become inoperable and will only work on earlier version of the system. Fortunately, downgrading your PS3 gaming device can be done with the use of many USB storage-capable devices, like the Texas Instruments TI series calculators.

Instructions

    • 1

Download the "3.41 PUP" and "Lv2Diag.self" files onto your computer, then insert a USB cable into the "USB" port on your TI series calculator and then plug the other end of the USB cable into an available USB port on your computer. A folder for the TI calculator will open on your desktop.

    • 2

Drag and drop the "3.41 PUP" and "Lv2Diag.self" files into the TI calculator folder, then remove the USB cable for the TI calculator from the computer and insert the card into the first USB port on your PS3 console.

    • 3

Press the "Power" button on the PS3 system to turn it on. You will see a black screen while the PS3 HDD reads the downgrade files and installs the downgraded firmware. In about four minutes, the green light on the console will begin flashing and the system will turn itself off.

Unplug the USB cable for the TI calculator from the PS3, then press the "Power" on the PS3 to turn it back on.
