How to Put Your PS3 Back to AV Cord

Out of the box, Sony's PlayStation 3 game console can connect to a television using an HDMI, component, composite or S-Video connection. The only type of connection cable that comes with the system, however, is a composite AV cord. If you have connected your PS3 system to your television using a different video output cable and wish to switch back to a composite AV video output cable, you can do so through the system's Display Settings.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn on the television and switch the television's video input to the input that corresponds to the PS3's current video output settings. For example, if your PS3 system is currently connected to the TV via an HDMI cable, switch the television's input to HDMI.

    • 2

Plug the PS3 adapter end of the AV cable into the AV port at the back of PS3 system. Plug the red, white and yellow plugs on the opposite end of the AV cable into the corresponding red, white and yellow ports at the back of the television. Your PS3 system should now be connected to the television via two cables: the AV cable you connected in this step and the cable that corresponds to the system's current video output settings.

    • 3

Press the "Power" button on the front of the PS3 system and scroll over to the Settings section of the system's XrossMediaBar. Scroll down to the Display Settings option and press the "X" button.

    • 4

Highlight the Video Output Settings option and press the "X" button. Scroll down to the Composite/S Video option and press the "X" button. Highlight the Change option and press the "X" button to switch the system's video output to composite AV.

    • 5

Highlight the Yes option and press the "X" button to confirm that you want to use the composite AV video output setting. Disconnect the other video cable from the back of the TV and the back of the PS3 system, leaving only the power cable and composite AV cable connected.
