Things You'll Need
Instructions
Connect the console to the television using either the color-coded AV cables or an HDMI cable. The HDMI port is on the left side of the four ports above the back vents. The AV port is on the same row, but on the right side. Connecting via the AV cabling may leave the red plug hanging loose, depending on the ports on your television; this will not limit performance.
Plug the female end of the AC cable into the AC power port on the back of PS3 unit. Plug the male end into an electrical outlet.
Plug the B end (small end) of the USB cable into the small port at the top of the PlayStation controller, and the large end into one of the USB ports on the front of the console.
Turn on your TV and turn to the channel corresponding to the PS3's input.
Flip the power switch on the back of the PS3 to the "On" position. The switch is above the AC power port.
Press the power icon beneath the PS3 disc slot to bring the PS3 out of standby mode. The PS3 will boot up and automatically detect the active ports to configure itself to your television.
Press the clear "PS" button in the center of the controller while the console is booting up. This will sync the wireless controller to the device.
Follow the instructions displayed on the screen. These steps will explain how to pick a language, set the date and time, and how to choose a user name.
Choose the "Wired" connection if you use an Ethernet cable to connect your PlayStation directly to a router or modem. Select "Wireless" if you plan to use the built-in wireless function to connect to a wireless network. Select "Scan" and choose your Internet network from the ones listed and input a network password if required.
