How to Make a PS3 Fit a Normal TV

The PlayStation 3 can display images in 16:9 for widescreen televisions, or 4:3 for standard televisions. If you try to display a widescreen image on a normal TV, the image is displayed with black bars on the top and bottom. The image is rendered smaller to fit the screen. On a small TV, it can make the image difficult to see. You can change the image settings inside the menus.

     Select "Settings" from the main screen.

     Open "Video Output Settings" and choose the type of connector your TV uses. Most normal TVs use Composite / S-Video.

     Choose "4:3" in the "Select the TV type" screen.

     Verify your settings and select "Save."
