3D Televisions
According to Sony's FAQ for the PlayStation 3, your 3D Blu-ray movies will work with most stereoscopic 3D televisions produced in 2010 or later. Televisions designed before 2010 may use an outdated standard for 3D that is not compatible with Blu-ray 3D technology. Your current HDMI cable may work fine, though Sony recommends a cable that handles a minimum of 10.2 Gbps. Your television's 3D glasses will work with content on the PS3.
Sony Televisions
The Bravia line of televisions is developed by Sony, if you want to use a 3D television of the same manufacturer. At E3 in June 2011, Sony announced a 24-inch 3D television branded for the PlayStation 3, which is optimized to include a 3D display that shows two screens for multiplayer games, so long as the gamers are wearing 3D glasses. This television is set for release in Fall 2011.
PlayStation 3 Firmware
Firmware 3.50 did not support Blu-ray Java, which is how interactive content is programmed on your Blu-ray discs. It also lacked support for high-definition audio. However, firmware update 3.70 introduced BD-J and DTS-HD support. If you don't have the most recent version of the PlayStation 3 firmware, download it from Us.PlayStation.com/support/systemupdates/ps3/pc_update/index.htm, or update directly from an Internet-connected PS3 under Settings > System Update.
Playing 3D Movies
Simply insert your disc into the PlayStation 3; it will appear under the Video section the same as any other DVD or Blu-ray disc. You will need to turn on 3D for your television and in your Blu-ray menu. The PlayStation 3 plays Blu-ray 3D movies in 1080p resolution.
