How to Connect a PS3 to a TV With AV

Though Sony's PlayStation 3 console is capable of rendering images in high definition, PS3 consoles only ship with standard definition AV cables. Since these cables are the stock cables for the PS3 system, the PS3 is able to use AV cables right out of the box. Using these cables is like using any other PS3 connection, allowing you to connect a PS3 to a TV in a few simple steps.

  Disconnect the power cable from the back of the PlayStation 3 system to shut the system off completely.

  Plug the adapter end of the AV cable into the back of the PS3 system.

  Plug the red, white and yellow end of the AV cable into the red, white and yellow ports on the back of the television.

  Plug the power cord back into the PS3 system to restore power to the system.

  Press and hold the power button on the front of the PS3 system. When you press the button, you will hear a beep. After holding the button for about five seconds, you will hear a second beep. After you hear the second beep, release the power button.

  Select the "Yes" option when prompted to confirm that you want to use an AV connection with the PS3 system.
