How to Get TV on My PS3

The Sony PlayStation 3 (PS3) console can do more than simply play games. The unit features a built-in Blu-ray player and has the capability to play music, download movies and deliver television programming. Although American PS3 owners do not have access to the PS3 TV tuner released in Europe and Asia, there are still several methods for enjoying television programming on your system. Which method works best for you depends on which shows you want to watch and how much money you would like to spend.

  Sign up for a Netflix streaming membership. You can install and download the Netflix PS3 app directly from the XMB menu, which allows you to watch any television programs that have been released to Netflix. There are dozens of shows, but they do not usually include current seasons. Netflix streaming starts at $7.99 per month as of August 2011.

  Download television shows directly through the PlayStation Network. Fire up the PS3 XMB menu and scroll to PlayStation Store. Scroll down to "Television" to see which programs you can purchase and download.

  Subscribe to Hulu Plus and install its app to your PS3 through the XMB PSN menu. Hulu Plus costs $9.99 per month (as of August 2011) but gives you access to current-season shows as well as older seasons of certain programs.
