How to Hookup Audio on a PS3 for TV

The Sony PlayStation 3 is a multimedia gaming console that is capable of playing video games, movies and music. Audio is half of the experience, and the PS3 can output high-definition digital audio to your TV. There are several ways to hook up the audio for your PS3, but using and HDMI cable --- which can output HD video and audio --- will give you the best audio quality to your TV.

      Insert one end of the HDMI cable into the HDMI port found on the back of your PS3.

      Insert the other end of the HDMI cable to an open HDMI input port on your TV.

      Turn on your PS3. Scroll to the "Settings" tab and select "Audio Settings."

      Select "Audio Output Settings."

      Check the boxes for the type of audio formats that your TV will accept. Refer to your owner's manual for information on which audio formats are compatible.

      Select "Save Settings" to save your settings.
