How to Troubleshoot Two Controllers on the PS3

The Sony PlayStation 3 retail package comes with one controller that is synced to the system before it is even taken out of its packaging. When it comes to reconnecting one or more new PS3 controllers that have not been synced to the system, problems could arise. There are a few different reasons why a PS3 controller fails to sync with a system.

Instructions

Turn the Sony PlayStation 3 off by holding the power button on the console until the system beeps. The conventional way of turning the PS3 off is by using the controller, but if the controllers are not working, that cannot be done. Turn it back on by pressing the power button. Press the center "PS" button on each controller to see if it connects to the system.

Connect the mini-USB cord to the top of the PS3 controller and connect the other end of the mini-USB cord to the USB port. Do this with each of the PS3 controllers. All of the PS3 lights should be blinking on the top of the controller. Disconnect the controller, and all of the lights except for one will shut off. This means the controller is now connected. If they still have yet to connect, it could be a power problem.

Connect both controllers to charging stations or to a USB cable that connects to a charging base. Allow the controllers to charge for at least two hours. When the controllers are charged, connect each controller to the PS3 using the mini-USB cord to sync the controller with the PS3 system. Disconnect the cord and press the "PS" button on the controller to connect the PS3 controller. Repeat this procedure with the second controller.
