Use an Ethernet cord to tether your PS3 directly to your cable or DSL modem. Place one end of you Ethernet cord into one of the open slots on the back panel of your modem. Secure the other end inside the "Ethernet" slot on the back panel of your console.
Turn on your modem, television and console and turn your television to the input that displays the PS3 user interface.
Open the "Settings" menu and select the "Network Settings" sub-folder.
Press "X" to initialize the "Internet Connection Settings" wizard and hit "Yes" to confirm the first step.
Choose the "Easy" connection method. Wait while the console detects your connection. You will now see a results screen that displays connection details. Hit "Okay" to confirm these details and save the connection.
Run a connections test and hit "Okay" once the test has successfully completed.
