How to Hook a PS3 Directly to a Modem

A wired Internet connection is the best option for PlayStation 3 owners who are looking to establish the strongest connection possible. When your console is connected directly to your DSL or cable modem, you will experience fewer dropped gaming sessions, less lag and faster download speeds. This simple setup method can save a lot of frustration in the long run, so if your console is within close proximity to your modem, you should opt for this type of connection.

Instructions

    • 1

Use an Ethernet cord to tether your PS3 directly to your cable or DSL modem. Place one end of you Ethernet cord into one of the open slots on the back panel of your modem. Secure the other end inside the "Ethernet" slot on the back panel of your console.

    • 2

Turn on your modem, television and console and turn your television to the input that displays the PS3 user interface.

    • 3

Open the "Settings" menu and select the "Network Settings" sub-folder.
