How to Troubleshoot a PS3 With No Signal Input

The PlayStation 3 is capable of producing HD-quality output, and it can be connected to a television using various types of cables. If you are receiving a "No Signal Input" message, your TV obviously is not receiving an input signal for one reason or another. When you receive this error message, there are a few troubleshooting steps you can try -- making sure your PS3 is sending the signal to the correct output, and your TV is receiving the correct input.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn on the TV and the PS3. Press the "Input" or "Source" button on your TV remote, and verify that the TV is set to the correct input type. For example, if the PS3 is connected with an HDMI cable to the "HDMI 2" input on the TV, set the TV's input to "HDMI 2."

    • 2

Connect the PS3 to another input on the TV, then set the TV to the correct input. If the PS3's output appears on screen, the original input may be malfunctioning.

    • 3

Remove the component video cables, and verify they are connected to the correct jacks, by comparing the colors and labels.

    • 4

Turn off the TV and the PS3, and disconnect all video cables from the PS3. Reconnect only one type of cable from the PS3 to the TV, such as an HDMI cable or component video cable.

    • 5

Reset the PS3's video settings. Start with the system off, and make sure the light on the front of the unit is red. Hold the power button for several seconds, until you hear two beeps. This causes the PS3 to change the video output to the type of cable currently connected. Turn on the TV, and select the proper input source.
