How Can I Get My PS3 to the Reset Menu if It Turns On Then Turns Right Off?

If your PS3 crashes and reboots whenever you try to turn it on, you can't get into the menu system to reset the settings. However, you can still reset the system through the recovery menu. The recovery menu gives you several options for resetting the console. You can reset system settings, reinstall the operating system or erase everything on the hard drive and rebuild the OS.

Things You'll Need

  • USB cable
  • PS3 controller

Select "Restore Default Settings" to change the settings back to factory defaults without erasing any data. Restart System just reboots the PS3. Select "Restore File System" to check for missing or corrupted system files. Rebuild Database re-installs the operating system. Restore PS3 System formats the hard drive and re-installs the OS from scratch. System Updates is for installing firmware updates.
