How to Troubleshoot a PS3 Blu-ray

Although a Sony PS3 gaming console allows you to play your favorite games, it also allows you to play Blu-ray video discs. Blu-ray is a video format that outputs video in hi-definition. This means movies, TV shows and other video content are displayed in clear and sharper quality. Occasionally, your Blu-ray discs may not play. A few troubleshooting steps and guidelines may solve the PS3 Blu-ray problems.

Instructions

    • 1

Make sure the Blu-ray disc you want to watch matches the region-code supported by your PS3 system. If your disc isn't supported, it won't play.

    • 2

Check the parental security settings on your PS3 gaming console if you're unable to play certain discs. For example, if your rating is configured to only allow family friendly discs, PG-13 or R-rated discs won't play. To adjust these settings, select "Settings" on the PS3 XMB menu on your screen and select "Security Settings."

    • 3

Enter your current PS3 parental control's password. Select "OFF" if you want to disable the parental controls. Select a lower or higher security setting depending on what you want to watch. However, keep in mind that the lower the security setting, the tighter the restriction.

    • 4

Enter the password that you used to create a Blu-ray disc if it's showing up as "locked" when you insert it into your gaming disc.

    • 5

Select "Settings" on the XMB menu and then select "System Update" to install the latest update if you're unable to play commercially available Blue-ray discs. Select "Update via Internet" or "Update via Storage Media" depending on your method.
