How to Hook Sound to PS3

Hooking the sound up to your PlayStation 3 is an important step in getting your console installed and ready to use. The PlayStation 3 can either hook directly into your television's built-in speakers or it can be connected to an external sound system.

  1. Television Audio

      Identify the type of cable you will need for your television by consulting your owner's manual or visually identifying the ports on the TV itself.

      Plug your HDMI, optical, or AV Multi-out cable into your television and run the cable to the location of the PlayStation 3.

      Plug the cable into the PS3 and power on the system and television to check that the audio link is working.

    External Sound System

      Identify the type of cable you will need for the sound system by consulting the owner's manual or by visually identifying the input on the device itself.

      Plug the HDMI, optical or AV Multi-out cable into the port on the sound system, taking note of the channel you are using, and then run the cable to the PS3.

      Plug the cable into the back of the PS3 and then power on the PS3, the television and your sound system.

      Set the channel on your sound system to the option that the PS3 is plugged into to test that the audio is working properly.
