How to Troubleshoot a PS3 Break Downgrade

The PlayStation 3 is a powerful console that is frequently receiving updates to increase the strength and efficiency of the device; however, sometimes a new feature can be implemented in an update that makes it temporarily incompatible with a game or program on the system, particularly if you use the third-party software HomeBrew. Downgrading back to a previous version is usually a clean process, but there are troubleshooting techniques you can use if your downgrade process fails or freezes.

Instructions

    • 1

Abort the downgrade attempt by pressing the "Circle" button. This will take a few minutes as the downgrade will attempt to reverse any changes it has made.

    • 2

Turn off your PlayStation 3 system. Restarting the system can wipe its short-term memory clear and give the system a fresh set of files to work from, which can be useful if one of the files temporarily became corrupted.

    • 3

Reconnect the peripheral performing the downgrade. If you are attempting to install the downgrade file from a USB port, ensure that the USB disc drive is plugged into the console snugly.
