How to Troubleshoot PS3 Upgrades

All PlayStation 3 models feature an upgradable hard drive. Unlike a computer, the rest of the console's hardware is not functionally or easily upgradable. The process itself is straightforward, and Sony has included tools on the console to help ease the transition process. The PlayStation 3 is compatible with any 2.5" SATA hard drive and requires using the data transfer tools to move some saved data.

Things You'll Need

    • 15

Clean the SATA connection points on the hard drive with the compressed air canister.

    • 16

Reinsert the hard drive into the PS3's hard drive dock, and press it to the connector side to secure a firm connection.

    • 17

Tighten the hard drive dock's securing screw, close the hard drive cover and turn on the console.
