How to Back Up Your Utilities on the PS3

It's easy to forget about backing up your data until you lose it. After it happens once, you'll have a hard time ever forgetting. The PlayStation 3 system software version 1.32 or later comes with a Backup Utility feature. The feature makes it easy to back up all of your data --- with the exception of certain copy-protected data such as Digital Rights Management and trophy data --- from the system's hard drive to a removable storage medium of your choice, like an SD memory card, MemoryStick or USB drive.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn on your PS3 console. Navigate to "Settings," "System Settings." Press the "X" button. Navigate to "Backup Utility" and press "X." Select "Back Up."

    • 2

Plug in your removable storage device to the appropriate slot or port.

    • 3

Select the folder you would like to copy files from. Press "X." Select your file, press "X." Choose "Copy" from the menu. Press "X." Data backed up onto your storage device will be saved to the automatically created "PS3 - Export - Backup" folder.

    • 4

Select the destination device, then press "X." The file will copy to your chosen destination. After it has copied, "Copy Complete" will appear on the screen. Press "X" to return to the Media Options menu. Press "X" again. To confirm that the transfer was successfully completed, press the triangle button and select "Display All."
