How to Hook Up a PS3 to a Stereo With an Optical USB and to a TV

The PlayStation 3 (PS3) comes with the standard composite stereo output with the red and white connections and also an optical audio output that will transfer a digital signal. The digital audio signal is capable of carrying a true digital stereo signal and the digital surround sound signal like Dolby Digital and DTS. To take advantage of the optical output, you will connect the video signal to the television and the audio signal to a stereo with an optical input.

Take the yellow plug on the end of the A/V cable and insert it into the yellow video input on the back of your television. The input will be labelled "Video In" or "Video Input."
