How to Hook a Sony Bravia Surround Sound to a PS3

After you connect the video of your PlayStation3 to your television, you can hook up the audio to a Sony Bravia home theater system and take advantage of the surround sound feature of the PS3. Connect the PS3 to the stereo using an optical cable to receive the digital surround sound formats, like Dolby Digital or DTS, and to take advantage of the digital audio quality the PS3 offers.

Purchase an optical audio cable with Toslink connections on both ends. The package for the optical cable will tell you if the optical cable has Toslink plugs. An optical cable with Toslink plugs is the most common style of optical cables on the market.

Find the optical output on the back of the PlayStation3 unit. It will be labelled "Digital Out (Optical)." Insert one end of the optical audio cable into the digital output by looking at the shape of the plug and matching it with the way the output is designed. The Tolink plug on the end of the optical cable is designed to fit only one way.
